The Funeral Co-operative of Ottawa: Your co-operative
The Funeral Co-operative of Ottawa is an independent community-owned and operated co-operative. We are dedicated to ensuring that all funeral arrangements are offered on a not-for-profit basis to benefit our members and maintain the highest quality of service. Led by our licensed funeral director, our team is committed to providing compassionate and professional service that will commemorate the passing of loved ones with dignity and in the manner of their choosing.
The Funeral Co-operative of Ottawa (FCO) began when a group of community-minded people headed by Mark Goldblatt, came together with a common vision: a not-for-profit funeral service, locally owned and operated by its members. Inspired by the success stories of the Coopérative funéraire de l'Outaouais across the river in Gatineau and other funeral co-operatives in eastern Canada, their goal was to bring this new option to Eastern Ontario. An idea that once was just a dream became a reality. We opened our doors at 419 St. Laurent Boulevard, in the east end of Ottawa in 2013.
FCO’s volunteer Board of Directors has worked tirelessly to grow our business. Quality and not-for-profit pricing lies at the heart of the co-operative’s mission. We have developed a unique service model that makes affordable funeral arrangements available in Ottawa. We price our products and services so that members benefit from group purchasing and low overhead and the funeral co-operative can grow to better serve our community.
Our model of service ensures that we deliver the funeral arrangements you desire. A commitment to no upselling and fully transparent pricing. Our facilities are easily accessible by car or by bus (OC Transpo route 7). Our model also enables you to hold the funeral at locations in the community that are meaningful to the family. For smaller funerals, our facility offers an attractive salon for visitations and receptions.
In memory of our founding president, Mark Goldblatt, who passed away February 3rd, 2015, members are invited to make a donation to support the development of the Funeral Co-operative of Ottawa.
