CRAWFORD, Christine Marion

1949 - 2021

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend Christine Marion Crawford passed away peacefully on December 31 at age 72 after a brave battle with cancer. She will be greatly missed by her children John Crawford and Melissa Armstrong (Matthew Elliott), her sister Sharon Crawford (Michel Faucher), her grandchildren Daniel and Patrick Elliott, and her dear friends and relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, Ellen and John Crawford. Christine was a published poet and brilliant storyteller who brought her childhood memories to life in unforgettable ways for her children. The daughter of a navy man, Christine learned to walk on a ship sailing to Australia, and lived on the east and west coasts of Canada before her family settled in Ottawa. Christine will be remembered for founding St. George's Housing Co-operative in Sandy Hill - a strong community where people from all income levels live together in dignity. She was also a gifted seamstress who cherished her years running the Clothing Care shop on Wilbrod Avenue. Throughout Christine's illness, she received outstanding care from the hematology, myeloma, dialysis and palliative care teams at the Ottawa Hospital. Our family is grateful to every doctor, nurse and PSW who helped Christine. Her funeral will take place on Friday, January 7 at 11 am at Canadian Martyrs Parish, 100 Main Street, Ottawa. Masking and physical distancing are in place. To confirm your attendance, please email (office@canadianmartyrs.org) or call (613-232-5347) the church and provide your name and contact information.
