COGULU, Prof. Dr. Ersen Peacefully at the palliative care unit of the Elizabeth Bruyere Centre on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the age of 77 years. Ersen is leaving behind many dear friends who will miss him enormously. He received his doctorate in geology at the University of Geneva in Switzerland and on his return to Turkey took up a position teaching Geoscience at the Technical University of Istanbul. He emigrated from Turkey to Canada about 1980 and continued a career in teaching at Laval University and the University of Ottawa. For a period in the 1990's he worked as a consultant carrying out projects for both industry and the Geological Survey of Canada. Following his retirement, he became a volunteer docent in the National Gallery of Canada where he carried out research, presented public lectures and provided tours in the National Gallery. He also volunteered at Dumlupinar University in Kütahya, Turkey. A celebration of Ersen's life will be held on Wednesday November 13, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Pinecrest Cemetery visitation centre, 2500 Baseline Rd. Ottawa. Friends of Ersen would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Ottawa Hospital and the Elizabeth Bruyere Centre for compassionate care during his illness.
