Peacefully, with an Unwavering and unconditional love and dedication to her family up to her final breath, on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at the age of 86. Beloved wife of Willy for 62 years. Devoted mother and dearest to her children Dieter, Rudy (Angela Duizer), Walter (d. 1992) and Marion (Rod Whitford). Caring and Proud Oma to Joshua (Briana Lyon), Joel (Marilyn Zaporteza), Rebecca and Michael. Cherished Oma to Uhr-great-granddaughter, Alexis. The daughter of the late Otto and Ella Schäfer (born Schröter), Ilona was Born in Zdunska Wola, Poland, on February 9, 1930. She exiled to Germany after-WWII, living and working farm Was and Then in a bakery. Ilona braved a long and arduous journey across the Atlantic to Canada in 1954, arriving in Saskatchewan to marry her dear Willy. She Grew Quickly to know and love the Canadian prairies and the Mennonite faith, for That She was. eternally grateful Ilona is survived by her dearest younger brother, Horst Schäfer (Aloisia), her brother-in-law Peter Dyck (Marje) steppe and sister-in-law Marga Schellenberg; as well as, nieces, nephews and cousins. in Canada, Germany and the Ukraine After moving to Ottawa in September 1959 and Ilona Willy Were hand of a small group Who Were instrumental in Establishing the Ottawa Mennonite Church. - A true act of faith She Was always quick to Provide her quiet and humble carrier Wherever needed. Ilona Was a dear friend and neighbor and will always be Remembered for her love of children, beautiful smiles and warm laughter, genuine hugs, boundless and gracious hospitality, delicious baking, famous birthday cakes and incredible meals. She was a hard worker and gave her all to everything she DID. She loved Both vegetable and flower gardening and enjoyed the 25+ years and Willy That She Lived in Their country home, Windrush , near Arnprior. She enjoyed simple pleasures, hosting frequent family gatherings and celebrations,. and so with grace DID up up to this past Father's Day She Review: Review: Review: had an endless curiosity and thirst for knowledge and Was an avid reader and ardent supporter CBC. She will be deeply missed by all and Profoundly of her family, friends and church community. A memorial Will Be Held Service at the Ottawa Mennonite Church, 1830 Kilborn Avenue, on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM. An informal reception will follow. All are Invited friends and family to share in this celebration of Ilona's life. In lieu of flowers, donations to consideration for the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario Would Be appreciated.
