MENNIE, William (Bill)

1927 - 2022

William (Bill) Mennie

June 4, 1927 - December 28, 2022

Bill, beloved and loving husband of Andrée during 71 years of marriage, died at age 95, two months after his wife's passing.

He leaves behind his sons Robert (Barbara Marshall) and Philip, daughters Yolande (André Martel) and Elise (Ron Duncan, deceased), grand-daughters Isabelle Duncan and Maija Duncan (Sean Hines), and his sisters Margie Conroy and Elizabeth Mennie.

Bill spent much of his life as a health economist and researcher at National Health and Welfare. He made important contributions to the national health insurance system in the 1960s, including a year spent in London, England to study and research the British NHI system.

He was a devoted father and husband, an avid traveler, reader and lover of music. Intellectually curious and keenly interested in history, in his later years he wrote and published a book that offered his own hypotheses around the historical origins of the gospels.

Bill was careful, thoughtful and measured in his words and actions. He was organized, reasonable and conscientious. His patience, generosity, empathy and kindness will be very much missed by all who knew him.

A funeral will be held at a later date. Messages of condolence can be left on the website of The Funeral Cooperative of Ottawa.

Mes sincères sympathies pour le décès de votre père ainsi que de votre mère. Ils ont vécu une longue vie ensemble et Bill est allé rejoindre sa bien-aimée Andrée. Qu’ils reposent les deux en paix.

Elise Mennie

Dear Elise,
I'm truly sorry for the passing of your dad. From his obituary he seems like a wonderful, thoughtful, intelligent person and a productive civil servant. I'm sure he and your mum were very proud of the person that you are.
May your memories of him be a blessing and a source of comfort to you and your family.
Joel

A life well lived. 71 years of marriage is rare now and will become almost impossible. I am sorry for the death of your father but you have so many years of stories and memories.
