REENS, Idil

1951 - 2021

Idil Reens (née Gurman)
1951-2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Idil Reens announces her peaceful passing on Thursday February 4, 2021 at home after a four year long battle with lung cancer.

Born August 31, 1951 in Istanbul, Turkey, Idil grew up there and in Montreal. While studying at McGill University, Idil met and married her beloved husband Roger. After graduation, they moved to Halifax where Idil worked in the French Immersion program. Following his work, they moved to Vancouver before settling in Ottawa - a city she fully embraced and loved. Here she transitioned to working in fashion - from managing The Sox Clinic to working at Jaeger at Holt Renfrew. Idil was predeceased by her mother Ester Zakay and her father Eftal Gurman.

Idil will be remembered for her signature red hair, her style and beauty, sharp wit, easy smile, insatiable curiosity, and large, loving heart. She loved travel, spending time with

her family, friends and retired racing greyhounds and enjoyed preparing and savouring good food over interesting conversation.

Idil will be lovingly remembered by her husband Roger, her dear aunt Suzi Zakay and beloved cousins Albert and Gail Zakay and Toni and Michael Abramson and all her friends.

Thanks to Doctor Scott Laurie and the oncology team for their very compassionate care over the last four years and to Dr. Lisa Cross and Dr. Sonya Swift for their compassionate palliative care.

There will be no formal service. In accordance with her wishes, Idil will be interred with a Green Burial in Glenwood Cemetery, Picton, Ontario. An invitation will be sent to friends and family to come together for a Celebration of Life to be held in Picton in the spring when we can all safely gather.

In memorial, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Lung Cancer Canada would be appreciated.
