MOREIRA, June
1929 - 2025
June Faye Moreira
With deep sorrow, the family of June Faye (Brissenden) Moreira announce her passing on August 20, 2025, at Bruyère Health St-Vincent Hospital, Ottawa. Throughout a challenging illness, our beloved Mother’s courage, determination, generosity, and wit greeted her many visitors and she died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Lachine, Quebec, June was the youngest of William and Esther Brissenden’s nine children. She is predeceased by siblings Marion (aka Dickie), Leonard, William, Joseph, Barry, Patrick, David Olaf, and Harriet. Dickie, the first-born, helped her parents care for little Harriet and June and the three became very close.
June was a warm, nurturing person who in later years opened her arms and home to her many nieces and nephews, always willing to lend a hand. Known as AJ (Aunt June), she was a strong and supportive role model.
June is survived by her sons David Jr. (Meg Cheng) and Alan (Myra Powell), grandchildren James (Vanessa Cholette) and Kate (Manny Cossio). She was overjoyed at the news that Kate (daughter of Alan’s former wife Kirsi), will be delivering a great grandchild this September. June’s sons John and Thomas and her former husband, David Moreira Sr., predeceased her.
A legacy of love and cherished memories will live on in the hearts of all who knew June. She was a self-reliant woman who overcame many obstacles and whose conversational skills were formidable. Following her divorce, she taught herself to type at her kitchen table and parlayed those skills into a successful career as an executive secretary at Nortel. She loved playing golf and bridge and was an accomplished artist who loved to paint, particularly portraits of family members. June also loved international travel, outings with family and friends and shared her retirement years with Stan Kettel, a dear companion with a big heart and wonderful sense of humor.
Heartfelt thanks to Joel and Julie Mercer, Vanessa Cholette, and Bruyère Health St-Vincent Hospital staff for your kindness and compassion.
A funeral service followed by a reception will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Rideau Park United Church, 2203 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa. In lieu of flowers, donations to Bruyère Health St-Vincent Hospital (bruyere.org) in June’s memory would be appreciated.
