TORSEIN, Lars

1934 - 2025

                        November 3, 1934 – May 8, 2025

Lars Torsein was born in Stenstorp, Sweden on 3rd November 1934 to Torsten Torsein and Anna (Hermansson). Lars spent his youth growing up on the family farm together with his five siblings: Tora, Svante, Märta, Bengt and Helge.

After completing mandatory military service Lars attended the University College of Borås located in Borås, Sweden, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. Lars’ career with ABB (Asea Brown Boveri) spanned thirty-seven years. It began upon graduation in 1961 when he was hired by STAL-LAVAL Turbin AB, Finspång as an application engineer (sales and maintenance of thermal power equipment).  In 1964 he accepted a transfer to London, England, where he spent over a decade and was responsible for all industrial steam and gas turbine activities for STAL-LAVAL in the United Kingdom.

It was in London that Lars met his wife Dawn (nee Greenslade). They were married in the Swedish Church, London, on December 20th, 1969. This is where their daughters Christina Torsein (David Gillies) and Annabelle Torsein were christened. Lars was a loyal and dedicated husband, a devoted father who was extremely proud of his daughters’ accomplishments.

In August 1975, the Torsein family immigrated to Canada where Lars was employed by ASEA-STAL AB. During his career Lars was engaged for his extensive knowledge of thermal power, including steam and gas turbine applications and power generation studies pertaining to the pulp and paper industry. Lars was the co-author of several technical papers on biomass conversion to other energy forms.

Lars had a great affinity for nature and the outdoors. He was a long-time cross-country skier. He grew up cross country skiing from an early age because it was the means of transport between home and school. Lars also developed a passion for golf and played the game until his eighties.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Rusimovic as well as the staff and residents of The Glebe Centre where Lars had been a resident since October 2019. Although his memory failed him during his final years Lars still enjoyed the company of others especially that of his wife and daughters.

At the request of Lars there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
