CLARK, Leslie (Lester)

1954 - 2023

Clark, Lester. Leslie ("Lester") Allan Clark suddenly left this physical plane on Saturday, April 15, aged 68. Lester's Barber Shop was a Beechwood Avenue institution until a 2011 fire, but his love of service, notably to gents in palliative or hospital care, did not stop. A barber since his teens, in his 40s Lester whole-heartedly embraced the Baha'i Faith and its teachings of global oneness. "Since that first meeting, I feel like I fell into a bed of roses!"
He gave wonderful support to Baha'i students, barred from studying in Iran, and seeking higher education in Canada. Shabnam Mohammadhosseini was among them; she and Lester married in 2006. Pre-deceased by his mother Colleen Farmer and father Malcolm Clark, Lester leaves Shabnam, sister Maxine (Bob McLaughlin), Patrick McLaughlin, Trevor McLaughlin, Tammy McDonald, Paul McLaughlin, brother Malcolm (Cathy Hogan), Darren Hogan, Claudette Clark, Darryl Brown and Debbie Brown. His interment will take place in the Baha'i Gardens at Capital Cemetery, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, on Thursday, April 20 at 11 a.m. Afterward, Lester's kindness, nobility and good humour will be lovingly remembered at the Ottawa Baha'i Centre, 211 McArthur Avenue.

Lester's family

I had the pleasure to have Lester as one of my Baha'i school teachers for a year as a child. I remember him as warm person with a very contagious smile. Lots of love to his whole family. Sorry for your loss.

Shabnam and relatives

I had the pleasure to have Lester as one of the volunteer drivers who drove our team from Ottawa to Brockville in order to conduct Baha'i children's classes. On the way back and forth, we enjoyed listening to his wisdom and what he has learnt from the difficulties he had faced including the fire. He also mentioned his beloved wife whom I've not met and how grateful he was for having her. I've not known him for a long time but he definitely has left an impact on me. Shabnam, my sincere condolences. May God bless his soul and give you the needed patience.

Lester’s family

I am very sorry to hear of Lester’s passing. In 1988, my friend Beth and I opened a bakery on Beechwood Ave right next door to Lester’s barbershop. How lucky for us to have such a great neighbour! Lester was witty and very kind. Between baking and haircuts, we would often gather on the sidewalk for regular chats. The dogs in the neighbourhood could always find a treat on Lester’s bench in front of the shop! My son had his first haircut at Lester’s as did many kids in the neighbourhood. Lollipops were always on hand for the occasion. Beth’s brother would drive in from Arnprior for a regular trim. Lester was a shining light! My condolences to his family.
