Isabelle (Leblanc), Mary Elaine

ISABELLE (LEBLANC), Mary Elaine

1933 - 2024

Mary Elaine Isabelle (née Leblanc), 90, passed away gently on March 16th, 2024 with family by her side. She is now with her loving and beloved husband, Laurent, who passed away five years ago.

Elaine, the daughter of Stephen and Carmel Leblanc, was born and lived her life in Ottawa. She is the dearly loved mother of Paul (Lyne Paquet), André (Shelley Cram), Thérèse (Brent Fearon), and Pierre (Lisa Krzywicki), with 9 grand-children and 6 great grand-children.

Over her working years, Elaine was a research chemist and a senior government executive at both NSERC and SSHRC. She was particularly proud of her role as the founding Director to the Networks of Centres of Excellence program. She also contributed to her local community in various causes, such as the Citizens’ Committee on Children, serving as Board Member for the Ottawa Public Library and contributing to projects of the Canadian Association for the Club of Rome.

Elaine travelled with Laurent, often taking the entire family on trips and to many “Souvenir Normand” gatherings. She adored swimming, sewing, tending to her flowers, and cooking at “Laurelaine,” the family cottage on Lac Pémichangan. She was an avid reader, scrabble player, and bridge partner. She loved Laurent, her family and her many friends.

A mass and reception will be held in celebration of Elaine’s wonderful life at 10 am on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at St. Basil’s Church at 940 Rex Avenue in Ottawa.

In lieu of flowers, we are honouring Elaine with donations to SCWIST (Society for Canadian Women in Science & Technology).
