Brisson, Paul François

Passed away at the age of sixty-six, on December 6, 2023.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 17 years Lise Labine, and his family, stepson François Dugal (Karen Soper), stepdaughter Marie-Claude Dugal (Lucas West) as well as his grand-children, Zachary, Pénélope and Rosalie who all miss him dearly.

Born a Franco-Ontarian in Embrun, Ontario, son of Alphérie Brisson and Pauline Lanois (deceased). His uncle Edgar Brisson and his spouse Francine Ménard, his two aunts, Ginette Brisson and Pauline Prézeau as well as many cousins, all honour his courage throughout his illness.

His kindness, humour and patience will be greatly missed.

His marriage to Lise, his family and social life filled him with happiness.

Paul enjoyed simplicity, visual and performing arts, nature, camping, skiing, kayaking and especially campfires. He was particularly fond of the Labine camp on Ministic Lake which to him symbolized well-being.

Passionate about academia, Paul is a uOttawa Finance alumni (1981) and later in life, went on to complete a Master’s degree in social work at the University of Ottawa. In 2010 he completed his thesis: Social inclusion and mental health: What possibilities?

Paul was an active member of the Board of the Canadian Mental Health Association of Sudbury Manitoulin Canadian Mental Health Association, Sudbury/Manitoulin, where he contributed as a volunteer for four years.

He also contributed as a Board member for the Lowertown Community Resource Centre. His contribution was appreciated by his colleagues.

In addition to his professional contributions, Paul was a proficient and self-taught home renovator and took great pride in his work on several homes.

He had recently discovered a new passion, the joy of painting. Fascinated by the process, Paul was captivated by the work of Bob Ross.

In January 2022, Paul was diagnosed with early onset of frontotemporal dementia.

Lise would like to thank his special caregiver, Irene Chilakos, Dr. Faery and the staff in memory care at the Riverpath residence, the Physio staff from Maplecare Physitotherapy (in particular Ben and Judy), the staff of the Adult Day Program at le Centre de services Guigues, the Carefor Health Adult Day Program (Carling Avenue), the Marianhill Adult Day Program in Pembroke as well as personal service workers at the Home and Community Care Support Services-Champlain in both Westmeath and Ottawa.
