MOORE, Ruth
1921 - 2025
Ruth Elizabeth (Duffy) Moore
January 6, 1921 – June 10, 2025
Ruth Moore passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025 at the New Edinburgh Square Retirement Home in Ottawa, Ontario.
Predeceased by her husband, Bill Moore, and her Duffy sisters (Dorothy and Marie) and Duffy brothers (Dave, Don and Mac). Remembered by her youngest Duffy sister, Louise, and Ruth’s daughters, Louise (Gary) and Marilyn (Don, deceased). And her grandchildren, David, Donna (Brandon) and Elizabeth (Matt). And her great grandchildren, Brody and Chase. And the extended Duffy clan – Cynthia, Susan, Marilyn, Leslie, Kim, Kathy, Donna, Nancy, Greg, Tosha, Matthew, Shawna, Michael, Stephanie and Carla.
Ruth Duffy was born in 1921 on a farm in New Brunswick where she grew up. She was the eldest in the family, and thanks to support from a spinster aunt, she was able to further her education and went to Mount Allison University. She graduated in Chemistry in 1942.
After working for The Aluminum Company of Canada in Arvida, Quebec during WW II, she moved to Ottawa to work as a chemist at the National Research Council (NRC). There she met and married Bill Moore, an electrical engineer, also at NRC. They lived in Manor Park in Ottawa for over 60 years.
The family would like to thank her doctor, Dr. Elie Skaff, and the staff of the New Edinburgh Square Residence for their excellent care in her final years. My mother’s wish was to leave this world from the Residence, no hospital. She got her wish.
According to her wishes, there will be no funeral service nor celebration of life. Her ashes will be buried alongside her husband in the rural cemetery near the NB farm where she grew up.
Anyone wishing to remember Ruth, she was a long-time supporter of The Ottawa Mission and The Salvation Army
