The Funeral Co-operative of Ottawa is seeking a bilingual funeral director with at least two years’ experience to join our growing business. The successful candidate will hold a Class I funeral director’s licence in Ontario or similar qualification from another province. If not yet qualified in Ontario, FCO will pay the director a salary during the period required to prepare for and pass the requisite exam to obtain an Ontario licence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Managing Funeral Director, the Funeral Director’s role is to counsel the families and friends of deceased persons and to assist in making final arrangements that accord with the family’s preferences. The Director advises clients on the range of services available through the co-operative and their cost, as well as any benefits to which they may be entitled. They consult with the bereaved about their needs and wishes, secure all necessary information about the deceased, arrange for the transportation, embalming, if requested, and disposition of the body, complete all necessary records and registrations, and, where the family wishes, make arrangements for a funeral service or memorial event of whatever kind is meaningful to the survivors.
The Funeral Director promotes the co-operative in the community, helps grow our membership and advises clients on funeral prearrangements.
The Funeral Director conducts themselves with exemplary courtesy, demonstrating a sensitive understanding of the kind of customer service appropriate to people in their time of grief and expected of the co-operative by its members and its Board of Directors.
