PEAKER, CHRISTOPHER ROY

1958 - 2020

Passed away in hospital on July 24, 2020 after three years of declining health. Predeceased by his parents Douglas Peaker and Ruth Jamieson Peaker, as well as his beloved grandmother Harriet Chapman Peaker. Deeply mourned by his twin brother Timothy Peaker (and his partner Daniel Pellerin). Also survived by cousins across western Canada and in England and Australia. Will be missed by family friend Annette Leung. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Royal Ottawa Hospital for their compassionate care for Chris and to the staff of Ottawa Salus for supporting Chris in his efforts to remain independent for many years. A special thank you to Dr. Edward Horn at the Royal for his four decades of helping Chris face his health challenges. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages anyone who wishes to honour the memory of Chris to do so by making a memorial donation to the Royal Ottawa Foundation (geriatric or mood disorder divisions) or to Ottawa Salus. R.I.P. dear brother. You may leave condolences or share memories at

Hello Tim. Very sorry to hear of Chris' death so young (at least, young from our point of view!). I dreamt of Chris this evening - and on a whim just decided to look him up on the internet. So just got this news now. Very nice photo of him. Condolences. Also nice to see that you are still in touch with Annette and glad to see that you are with a partner at this difficult time. I also used to occasionally bump into Heather while walking the dog in Stanley park a few years ago. We would stop and chat. This has been such a crazy, bizarre year world-wide - full of so many surprises. On behalf of myself and all of the Overtvelds, we care about you and think of you. I will also let my mother in particular know that Chris has passed because I know that they used to occasionally bump into each other and say hello on the bus decades ago - when Mom lived just off Somerset Street. She moved from there awhile ago now. I noticed a few messages on the Citizen website as well and I posted there too, recognizing some names from our childhood - probably worth it to scoop whatever is new there before that blog expires in August of this year. Not sure when or if this blog does too ..... Love and virtual hugs from Joy.

Dear Tim, I only learned of the passing of your brother today. It had a profound impact on me as I was transported back to nights of dancing at the clubs in Hull, listening to Maria Muldaur, Linda Ronstadt, Leo Sayer, Jackson Browne. He had a deep passion for engaging in the joys of life. I loved his various laughs, the guffaws, the cackles, the sputters. He had sensitivity and charm that melted me, even when I was upset at him for something.
It must have been very for you to lose him.
My deep condolences.
