Marcie Lavoie

Marcia (Marcie) Lynn Lavoie passed away suddenly on August 29, 2022 at the age of 53. Marcie earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University. Marcie has held a variety of jobs in her hometown of Thunder Bay, including at the Community Care Access Centre, the television station and the Port Arthur Curling Club. Her warm nature and empathetic spirit were such that she made lifelong friends in all her jobs before establishing her career with the Canadian Coast Guard, where she worked in Thunder Bay, Sarnia and, most recently, Ottawa.
Marcie was a friend, colleague and loving and devoted wife, who had a smile that absolutely lit up the room. She loved animals, especially her 16-year-old terrier, Grady, a rescue dog adopted from Thunder Bay. Marcie volunteered at the Canine Development Centre in Thunder Bay and developed a canine agility program for the school. She taught agility to beginners and had Grady participate in rally and agility competitions. She and her son (Grady) loved to play agility and he especially loved all the treats. She loved Ken and Grady deeply and always called them her two boys. Marcie was everything to Ken and Grady. She is greatly missed by her two boys.
Marcie is survived by her husband Ken McInnis, her sisters Joanne (Rob "Sam") Seguin and Cecily Lavoie. She was predeceased by her father Marcial, her mother Rita and her brother Terry.
A commemorative celebration of Marcie's life will be held at the Ottawa Funeral Co-op at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2022. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Grady's favourite daycare, The Fox and The Hound Canine Retreat in Sarnia, the Ottawa Humane Society or the Thunder Bay District Humane Society.

Ken and family

My thoughts are with you all. Marcie was taken far too soon. I am still in disbelief that she’s gone.

I met Marcie working at the Municipal Affairs office in Thunder Bay. We quickly became great friends. We both shared a love of dogs and Marcie was always so easy to talk with. I remember trying yoga for the first time together and taking a fun vacation to the Dominican. She was so likeable, even my mom thought we should set her up with my brother! Haha! Marcie wasn’t afraid to try new things and I always admired her hard work and determination. I was so happy for her when she found you Ken, the love of her life. I can’t imagine what you must be going through. She adored you.

We drifted apart over the years with changes in careers and cities, but Marcie always held a special place in my heart. My deepest condolences to all of Marcie’s friends and family.

Ken

I want to offer my deepest condolences. Marcie will be missed and for myself I will miss our work and social discussions. She made a positive impact on me even for the short time I knew her. I will forever remember her bright smile and strong will as well as her total dedication to everything she undertook.

Ken

My deepest condolences on the passing of Marcie. She was a lovely person and is missed.

Marcie has a special place in my memory for being involved in a funny situation that can always bring a smile. The shift we worked together when Marcie saw the mouse sneak out from underneath the chart table and let out a yelp that sent it scurrying back under the table is still funny I cannot help but smile.
