The Ottawa Funeral Cooperative: Your Cooperative

The Ottawa Funeral Cooperative (OFC) had its beginnings when a few community-minded citizens decided to come together to share a common vision: funeral services administered by its own members, the owners. Inspired by the success of the Coopérative funéraire de l'Outaouais and other funeral cooperatives in the Maritimes and elsewhere in Canada. Their goal was to create an alternative offering high-level non-profit funeral services. Over time, other citizens joined the group and what was once just a dream became a reality.

The volunteer Board of Directors worked tirelessly to prepare the business plan, recruit new members, raise the necessary funds for the Cooperative. Then, the Board of Directors rented premises and carried out the required renovations. He hired a funeral director and support staff and obtained a funeral business license from the Ontario Funeral Service Board (now Ontario Funeral Services and Cemeteries Authority). .

We have developed a unique, not-for-profit service model that allows us to provide affordable funeral services to citizens of the Ottawa area. In addition, thanks to our group purchasing power and our lower operating costs, our members benefit from better prices on all our products and services.

The Ottawa Funeral Co-operative is located at 419 St-Laurent Boulevard in the east end of Ottawa. Our premises are easily accessible by car or by bus (route no. 7 of OC Transpo).
