BROWNE, Robin Phillip William

1957 - 2025

Robin Phillip William Browne
January 9, 1957 - February 9, 2025

Robin was a husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin and loyal friend. We are all devastated that he died, much too young, of acute medical complications.  Born in Arvida, Quebec, Robin spent most of his youth there with his parents and siblings, Lynette, Susan and Chris, apart from briefly living in Jamaica, England and Burundi. He attended Carleton University in Ottawa for several years before joining the Canadian Armed Forces as a radar technician at CFB Cold Lake in Alberta. There he met his wife Alecia and his soon-to-be-adopted son, Greg. Following his release from service, the three settled in Ottawa, where the family grew with the addition of their second son, Kevin. As electronics had always been an interest, post military he involved himself in the newly evolving world of micro-computing, both as a consultant and as a partner in local business ventures.

Robin had a curious mind. He loved discovering how things worked and, when young, enjoyed constructing and deconstructing with Meccano and Lego. Later, he tinkered with mini bikes, motorcycles and electric bicycles. He was an early user and advocate of the ebike and belonged to a group promoting their use in Ottawa. He also appreciated the company of animals and, at various points in his life, housed a series of hamsters and cats. Most recently, he delighted in the presence and antics of his budgies, Patia and BB Burdy.

Robin had a generous spirit. In the past few years he regularly spent time assisting his elderly father. Applying his technical know-how to this end, he coordinated multi-way calls joining his dad, himself, and his siblings so they could all collaborate on solving the Globe and Mail cryptic crossword together. Not uncommonly, the budgies joined in with their chatter as well.

Robin maintained his sense of humour and love of life despite limitations to his mobility imposed by arthritis later in life. He connected with immediate and extended family and with his many friends with jokes, funny images and videos shared through email. He particularly liked science-related oddities and shenanigans. In keeping with his computer skills, he was adept at creating digitized seasonal greeting cards, as well as inweaving personalized tapestries of pictures and stories into electronic birthday wishes. He was in the process of putting together an online Browne Family Album to maintain memories for now and future generations.
 "We miss him."
