Ottawa's alternative full service funeral choice

Our Practices in the Time of COVID-19

Funeral professionals are charged with a profoundly special task. It is our mission to comfort grieving families and to ensure that the remains of those in our care are treated with dignity. We humbly accept and will continue to fulfil these responsibilities at this difficult time.

As a provider of essential services, the Funeral Co-operative of Ottawa remains open, among many closures. If you require immediate service, please call 613-288-2689 for an appointment. You can be confident that FCO will take special precautions as long as the COVID-19 outbreak is active.

We continue to provide pre-arrangements for our members and client families. We would be happy to discuss an arrangement with you by telephone, FaceTime, Skype or the video-call system of your choice. If you prefer, we can also meet at our office, by appointment, with no more than two friends or family members. We guarantee that physical distancing will be observed. Because need has no respect for nights or weekends, we remain on call for funeral arrangements. However, our office will now close at 4:00 p.m. on weekdays and will be open only by appointment on Saturday and Sunday.

We will be pleased to help you arrange funeral services and memorials, but will not be able to schedule them until the province has confirmed that family and friends can safely attend these events.

Your Safety Is Our First Concern

To protect the well-being of our members, client families and staff, we are carefully following the directives of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario and the advice of Ottawa Public Health. We recommend the following practices, carefully observed by our staff, to everyone:

  • Wash your hands carefully and often with soap and water or use hand sanitizer.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth unless you have just washed your hands with soap.

  • Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue or into your arm, not your hand.

  • Practise physical (social) distancing at all times.

  • Suspend your visits to friends and family in hospitals, retirement homes or long-term care centres.

  • Unless employed in an essential service, leave your home only for vital errands and solitary walks.

We hope that these measures will keep everyone safe.

If you have questions about our current operating procedures, please reach out to us at 613-288-2689 or e-mail us at info@fco-cfo.coop.

Thank you.
